February 28, 2010 - High Performance Training Camp The University of Windsor Badminton Club is offering a high performance training camp sponsored by Yonex. The camp will be led by varsity badminton coach, Clovis McLaughlin, and some of Ontario's top players. Beginning participants will learn the fundamentals of competitive badminton, specifically how to improve their footwork, techniques of smashing, controlling the bird and maximizing power. Advance participants will have the opportunity to work closely with the coaches in many intensive skill training drills geared towards improving defensive and offensive play.
Date: Saturday March 20, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM (players may come later or leave earlier due to other obligations)
Cost: $30 for each participant
Location: St. Denis Centre (2555 College Ave., Windsor, ON)

February 23, 2010 - GOLD for St. Clair Ly Sports sponsored Vuong Tran and his partner Sam Lamoure from St. Clair won gold medals at the OCAA provincial badminton championships in Windsor February 20th. In the final, Tran and Lamoure swept Cambrian 21-7, 21-14. In the semi-final, they beat Humber 21-18, 27-25. As well, St. Clair's Julie Schell won the bronze medal by defeating Seneca 21-18, 21-17. Tran and Lamoure will advance to the national championships at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton in two weeks.
February 16, 2010 - OCAA in Windsor When it comes to the OCAA regional, Windsor is no rookie, but on February 19th- 20th Windsor will host the OCAA Provincial Finals for the first time. The West Regional tournament was held at Seneca College in Toronto where two teams will be representing the St. Clair Saints; Julie Schell, who was undefeated in the ladies singles, as well as Johnny Tran and Sam Lamoure, who won silver in the men's doubles. "We're looking forward to Provincials because Julie, Sam and Johnny all have good chances of qualifying for nationals," says coach Clovis McLaughlin. It is Johnny Tran's first year playing for St. Clair and he's proven to be its strongest player in the history of the team. St. Clair has qualified for nationals three times in a row from 2005-2007. Their ladies doubles teams and their mixed teams have gone to nationals in Calgary, Toronto and British Columbia. The team's coach, Clovis McLaughlin has been awarded Coach of the Year for the past three years for his outstanding coaching. If Julie Schell, Johnny Tran, and Sam Lamoure qualify for nationals they will be the first of their division to earn their way to nationals. This year, nationals will be held in Edmonton on March 4th- 6th.
November 15, 2009 - U of W Badminton Tournament The University of Windsor Badminton Club will be hosting their first tournament this semester on Sunday, December 6th, 2009. It is a tournament for singles and doubles play. Cost: $10 for the first event and $5 for the second. Nylon shuttles will be provided. Club Fees: Junior club is $50/year, and the adult club pays $85/year.
